Northwest Minnesota's many rivers are perfect for paddlers-- both new and experienced. The Red Lake River, Red River, Wild Rice River, Sandhill River, Thief River, and Clearwater River are all navigable by canoe, kayak, or even paddle board. Below is information on access points and outfitters so you can make the most of your trip to Riverland!

We've also compiled an interactive map of public access points and trails. The access points are sorted by type: Boat Launches (blue pins), Carry-ins (green pins), and Fishing Piers (red pins). Parks are labeled in green on the map.


Canoe Rentals available. Transportation upon request with an additional fee. Serving the Red Lake River in Polk County from Red Lake Falls, MN to Fisher, MN.

Call the City office during business hours (8 AM – 5PM M-F) for rental information. Paddlers and kayakers from the surrounding communities come to Fertile to explore the inside edition of the Sand Hills from the perspective of the river.

Located in Grand Forks, the Boathouse on the Red provides reasonably-priced canoe and kayak rentals. Run by the nonprofit Ground Up Adventures,  which seeks to promote adventure-based activities for youth.

This campground provides kayak and canoe rentals. Voyager's view also rents tubes and provides transportation for tubing trips down the Red Lake River.
